Fergie issued an apology after receiving social media backlash for her rendition of the National Anthem, during the NBA All Star game. “I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the National Anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA”, the singer said. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
Various players on the court were seen laughing, and others seemed unbothered. During the halftime show, Charles Barkley joked that he “needed a cigarette” after listening to her performance. Social media did not take long to join in on the Fergie bashing, leading to this apology. This isn’t the first strange National Anthem we’ve heard, but it was certainly an interesting perspective Fergie chose to take.
