In 2017 Nevada legalized marijuana for recreational use. Gov. Steve Sisolak of Nevada decided to protect the working class by signing a new law that employers can not refuse applicants over a failed marijuana test. “It is unlawful for an employer in this state to fail or refuse to hire a prospective employee because the prospective employee submitted to a screening test and the results of the screening test indicate the presence of marijuana”, said Sisolak. Although the law was passed, it did come with stipulations. This law will not apply to those who affect the safety of others such as police, firefighters, or those who operate vehicles.
